Tall Ships
03:41
|
|||
I sailed for the king What good did it bring?
The king made a pauper of me
So I’ll honor my past before the mast
And live as a rover at sea
These great sails have kept me from jail
From the gallows I never will sway
Way Hey, take me away
Tall Ships take me away
There’s no life for a sailor’s wife
So dress me up like Mary Read
Put me aboard hand me a sword
Make me a ward of the sea
I will throw my fate to the wind
And to the Captain I’ll say
On the Ivory Coast they put us in boats
To ship off to sell us as slaves
Our captors lie dead in watery beds
Sent to their salty graves
My liberty has been granted at sea
I’m be free til my dying day
Way Hey, take me away
Tall Ships sail me away

Fiddle Full of Fire
04:57
|
|||
In Hungary there was a time
When playing fiddle was a crime
In a village south of Budapest
One family stood out from the rest
Trees would shake and Children spin
Moved by the tones of their fiery violin
In a canvas tent on a Friday night
The family played to a crowd's delight
A gang of hussars rode through town
And burned the celebration down
The daughter losing all her kin
Escaped with just her smoking violin
In a port on the Adriatic Sea
Playing for pennies on the street
The gendarme threatened her with jail
On a pirate ship she chose to sail
Up to the crow's nest climbing higher
Summoning the wind with her fiddle full of fire
Passing ships would see the sight
Of a ghostly vision in the night
The fearsome song of a shrieking bird
Her enchanting notes were heard
A pirate clad in scarlet attire
Ruling the sea with a fiddle full of fire

Winnie Was Me Darling
03:44
|
|||
She stood with her bridegroom weeping at the altar
I was on a clipper bound for Gibraltar
Staring out at the Irish Sea
Longing for the love that could never be
Winnie was me darling me darling my darling
Winnie was me darling my darling girl
Our love was strong but our love was forbidden
Every kiss that we kissed was hidden
I was a catholic her father not
He cared not a wit what his daughter thought
Winnie was me darling me darling my darling
Winnie was me darling my darling girl
To prove to her father I'd be a worthy suitor
I bought him a goblet made out of pewter
He claimed I brought him a stolen cup
Called for the constable to lock me up
Winnie was me darling me darling my darling
Winnie was me darling my darling girl
The constable came to speak with her father
I broke free and ran for the water
At the docks I gave the constable the slip
I boarded an outbound merchant ship
Winnie was me darling me darling my darling
Winnie was me darling my darling girl
She stood with her bridegroom weeping at the altar
I was on a clipper bound for Gibraltar
Staring out at the Irish Sea
Longing for the love that could never be
Winnie was me darling me darling my darling
Winnie was me darling my darling girl

Bottle of Rum

Look out lovers here we come
You want love we'll give you some
We are not your average scum,
We fight with fiddles, guitars and drums
Life is short so don't be glum
We'll make your Avalon a slum
You would make such tasty chum
Give us bread we'll leave you crumbs
Fifteen men on a dead man's chest
I think that was the man's request
We don't know it but we'll do our best
Join us in our salty mess
They'll pick your pockets while I strum
Sticky fingers are our rule of thumb
If I fall for you don't be stunned
I've got no equilibrium
From "The Derelict" these lines we bummed
Its parts were greater than the sum
We're right back where we started from
That's all one our song is done

Sailing on the Ionian Sea
A week away from Tuscany
We spied a wealthy man on the promontory
He wore princely garments fit for a king
With a crimson cloak and glittering rings
the captain said he’d fetch a fine reward
So we seized him, bound him, and took him aboard
Sailing on the Ionian Sea Sailing on the Ionian Sea
But the ropes unraveled and fell right away
His dark eyes smiled not a word did he say
The coxswain shouted "You fools can't you see,
This is some kind of god we must let him go free!
If we don't release him he'll raise up a storm
Hurricane winds around us will swarm"
Sailing on the Ionian Sea
The Captain screamed "Are you out of your mind
We've got a rich man whose family we'll find
I'm the Captain this is the deal
I give the orders you take the wheel
Hoist the sail this is our lucky day
When we find his family a ransom they'll pay"
Sailing on the Ionian Sea
As the ship started moving fast
Grapevines appeared up and down the mast
The bowsprit sprouted with flowers and fruit
From the crow's nest came a whistling flute
The rigging was crawling with slithering snakes
Giving the bravest of pirates the shakes
Sailing on the Ionian Sea
The nobleman changed to a lion just then
And with a great roar he frightened the men
The terrified pirates to the good coxswain ran
Begging him to steer the ship back to land
The lion leapt with outstretched claw
Tearing the captain apart with his jaw
Sailing on the Ionian Sea
The fear-struck pirates jumped overboard
Becoming dolphins for evermore
The lion turned into a noble again
Said to the coxswain "Have courage dear friend,
I'm Dionysus the son of Zeus
Good fortune be with you I turn you loose"

In the Wake of the Hull
04:34
|
|||
I saw you in the eyes of the fishes
I heard you in the songs of the gulls
I watched as our sad little wishes
Disappeared in the wake of the hull
The day that we spent in the mission
Enchanted by the colorful skulls
Proved to be a sad premonition
Water in the wake of the hull
wonders we could see in the distance
worlds I’d discover with you
A storm laid to waste our resistance
Left to drift in the wake of the hull
I stare at the water before me
The sting of the scar getting dull
One day the sorrow will vanish
Left to drift in the wake of the hull

MOLLYMAWK
Mollymawk, what’s happening here?
The storm is filling the crew with fear.
Rounding the Horn, we’re sure to be lost.
Coxs’n said it was the killing of the albatross
Cookie claimed the provisions were gone.
Killed the mighty bird before dawn.
The say the soul of a sailor who is lost
Wanders the Southern Sea as an albatross.
Mollymawk, I hear the sailor cries
On Mount Sarmiento I cast my eyes
Into the freezing waters we’ll be tossed
My soul will be the prey of the albatross

Until We Sail Again
03:19
|
|||
Together we have weathered storms
In this mad life on the sea
And there is not another crew
I’d have sail with me
So lift your voice and raise your glass
And promise me my friends
That not too much time will pass Until we sail again
It may not be tomorrow,
Nay not even a year
But our skull and bones will rise again
Our band of buccaneers
The sea will one day call us home
And we will fight to the end
But for now I'll count the days Until we sail again
We'll bow down before no crown
For our mates we'll fight to the end
We'll make that vow right here and now
Until we sail again
So lift your voice and raise your glass
And promise me my friends
That not too much time will pass
Until we sail again
Until we sail again Until we sail again
